Summary: In direction and collaboration with the Director of Food Insecurity Programs and in alignment with the established policies, goals and objectives of the YMCA at Virginia Tech, the Kitchen Manager shall be responsible for coordinating food ordering, cooking/preparation, packaging, and delivery to the YMCA’s distribution sites.

In partnership with our sponsoring organization, Equal Heart, the YMCA at Virginia Tech is recruiting individuals to serve as AmeriCorps members to reduce hunger, provide engagement for youth, promote job readiness, and support environmental education. In
exchange for their service, AmeriCorps Members receive a bi-weekly living allowance and an end-of-term education award – total living allowance is $6,750, education award is $2,474.
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

After-school Youth Enrichment Program
The YMCA at Virginia Tech will offer seven (7) AmeriCorps positions averaging 20 hours per week from September 2022 to May 2023 (we anticipate the majority of hours will occur between 4 – 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; the remaining hours will be flexible). The focus of this work will be delivery of an after-school program for elementary-aged youth.
International Welcome Center
The YMCA at Virginia Tech will offer one (1) AmeriCorps position for 36 hours per week from September 2022 to May 2023. The work will focus on developing a New Americans Welcoming Center, which will serve international members of the community, both newcomers and long-time residents. The Center will provide services in many areas including but not limited to: guidance and welcoming for newcomers, immigrant legal assistance, culturally-responsive financial literacy & job preparedness, and cultural programming.
Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination
The YMCA at Virginia Tech will offer two (2) AmeriCorps position for 20 hours per week from September 2022 to May 2023. The focus of this work will be volunteer recruitment and coordination, with responsibility for increasing the number of volunteers serving the Y’s programs, events, and activities. The Volunteer Coordinator will engage prospects for all types of projects for the YMCA.
International Women’s Program
The YMCA at Virginia Tech will offer one (1) AmeriCorps positions for 20 hours per week from September 2022 to May 2023. The focus of this work will be program development and delivery for the International Women’s Program. This program consists of weekly and
bi-weekly meetings / activities that offer cultural engagement and professional development for foreign-born women. Its aim is to help foreign-born women (especially newcomers) connect, adapt, integrate, and live better in the region.
International Program: East-Asian Youth Mentor Program
The YMCA at Virginia Tech will offer one (1) AmeriCorps position for 20 hours per week from September 2022 to May 2023. The focus of this work will be development and delivery of a pilot program to mentor middle-school-aged East Asian youth. In the wake of some anti-Asian sentiment in the United States, this program aims to provide social and cultural support for these youth, including the development of positive racial and ethnic identity in addition to their own personal strengths and problem solving skills.
