We are proud to announce that the YMCA at Virginia Tech is opening a brand-new community art gallery in The Y Center at 1000 N. Main St., Blacksburg. We are extremely grateful to eARTh (by Diane Relf) for sponsorship of this new space and for the generous support of Shelter Alternatives and Bell Electric.

The opening show is titled ALTERED ART- Making art your own and will run from May 1- July 31, 2024.
Local artists and collaboration groups present their vision of creating with discarded art, altering to tell their story. Not every piece of art has an eternal life. Found, damaged, discarded or simply out-grown pieces may have a new life in creative hands. The new artist can add elements, words or objects; remove or replace visual aspects; add objects – found or collected; collage, paint, or alter in any way their personal vision sees.

Altered art is a great way to explore, re-vision and discover. Ultimately all art builds on the creativity of others, integrated into the next generation of creatives. To be human is to create. Altered art is a fun way to explore your humanity/creativity in collaboration with artists from the past.
We look forward to welcoming all to our new gallery and are excited about the beautiful, creative shows we have planned for the space!
